The pressure was on going into the last league game of the season, Lomond knew only victory would guarantee that they were named champions, a draw would put them in second place and still secure promotion to Division Two but if they lost it would be third place and no promotion.

Coach Anne McGregor was able to field a strong 16 player squad for the first time this season.

Loch Lomond had a very nervy start and although they had all of the possession, they were not taking control of the game. After scoring goal number one five minutes into the match, they settled and were able to play some fantastic hockey, cutting through the Wildcats defence time after time and keeping them pinned in their own 23 for most of the half.

The floodgates were opened and Loch Lomond went on to score a further seven goals before half-time. Even though they had put the match well beyond Wildcats, Loch Lomond were keen to put on a show for the many supporters who turned out to cheer them on. Once again, five minutes into the second half, Loch Lomond added to their tally. The Loch Lomond defence did not have a lot to do at the back as the midfield and strikers were in blistering form and created wave after wave of attacks.

The Wildcats keeper was kept busy right up to the final whistle and made numerous saves but was unable to stop the onslaught. The title was coming back to Loch Lomond after a very high scoring season in Division Three. The goals were scored by strikers Morven Rowan (four), Olivia Finch (five) and Kirsty Cordner (three), midfielder Rosie McColgan (two) and sweeper Sarah Rijsdijk (one).

Player of the match was awarded to striker Morven Rowan and joint runners-up were midfielders Jessie Cuthbertson and Josie Sclater. Rosie McColgan was given player of the match by the opposition. Loch Lomond will hold their AGM on Tuesday to discuss the plans for both squads for next season and can go forward in confidence in the belief that the club can go from strength to strength.

Loch Lomond would like to thank coach and president Anne McGregor for her tireless work for the club and also umpire Martin Robertson for taking charge of this match and all the other matches this season. Loch Lomond I team kit is sponsored by Lomond Letting.
