HELENSBURGH Rugby Club held the Burgh Youth Sevens on Sunday — with local clubs taking to the field for the new festival which bookmarks a busy rugby season After wind and rain battered Helensburgh on Saturday, which seen the Highland Games cancelled, it was a perhaps a surprise that the matches were able to go ahead.

But go ahead they did and the festival was hailed as a success. The games were for S1 and S2 teams from local clubs, at the end of a succesful 2014/15 season for the combined Lomond and Helensburgh squads.

Some fun, fast rugby was played in Sunday’s sunshine with the 16 teams across the main club and three Lomond School pitches throughout the afternoon.

Both the Helensburgh S1 Bears and S1 Comets teams worked hard through their pool games to then combine forces against Greenock in the Bowl Final.

The S2 Bears were unbeaten in their three pool games, but were unlucky to be squeezed out by Cartha QP in the Plate Final.

After some tough early games, the S2 Comets went through to win the Bowl Final against Allan Glens. Overall, 148 boys aged between 12 and 14 took part in over 38 games, the club would like to thank all the SRU Referees, Rugby Development Officers, Club Coaches and HYRC parents for their a hard work.
