HELENSBURGH Mini Rugby hosted their annual end of season awards recently to recognise the hard work and achievements of their members.

The club has over 100 children from primary one to primary seven who train and play in fixtures on a weekly basis.

Despite the harsh weather at the end of 2015 a lot of rugby was eventually played and the section attended many festivals.

All the coaches agree that the majority of the players have made improvements throughout the year and when deciding on Most Improved player and Player of the Season, it proved difficult with multiple candidates.

When choosing the players worthy of recognition coaches took a number of factors into consideration including attitude, effort, attendance at training, behaviour, improvements in their game and consistency of their play during the season.

A new award was introduced this year called the Gareth Hoskins Shield. It was awarded to primary seven player Alistair McCartney.

Player of the season awards went to primary four Rory Caldwell, primary five Ewan McCartney, primary six Lucy McRae and primary seven Connor Niblock.

Primary four Finn Holling, primary five Charlie Deacon, primary six William Harrison and primary seven Matt Dunn were all awarded the Most Improved Player of the Season award.

Once all the awards had been handed out everyone enjoyed a barbecue and an ice cream provided by Dinos in the sunshine at Ardencaple.

Helensburgh Mini Rugby would like to thank all the coaches and club volunteers, parents and families for all their hard work and support throughout the season and to Babcock for their ongoing support as the main Mini Rugby Sponsor.
