HELENSBURGH back-rower Kane Greggain says there is a positive mood in the Helensburgh camp ahead of this Saturday's game against table-topping East Kilbride.

The Burgh ran Carrick close last weekend, after leading for a majority of the game thanks to tries from Greggain, Jonny Drake and two Steve Brown touchdowns.

But the Grizzles fell short, losing 43-31 to the team placed second in BT West Division One.

And Greggain feels that his side can push on against the league leaders at Ardencaple on Saturday.

He said: “It was unfortunate as we were in the lead for most of the game, and it just kind of took it from point to point, and they ran away from it in the last 10 to 15 minutes.

“But it tells you what kind of game it was when we come off the pitch disappointed in that situation against the second-top team.

“There’s a funny thing with Helensburgh - I feel when we play the bigger teams we really up our game.

“When we played East Kilbride down at their place, we had a good contest for the game, and the scoreline didn’t reflect the result.

“After the East Kilbride game we spoke afterwards that it would be a good game when we get them at home. Especially with the confidence after how we played against Carrick, who are second in the league, to then take another one of the big teams in East Kilbride at home I think we’ll be all right.”

And despite the absence of head coach Adam Hart, who is recovering from a hernia operation, the positivity has carried on.

Helensburgh will look and they’ve looked to carry that on throughout the season.

Greggain added: “David Calderwood, who was an ex-captain of Helensburgh, has stepped up and taken a lot of the training. He’s been doing really well.

“A big thing for us this season has been positivity and unfortunately Adam has had to take a step back for the next few weeks, but I feel as if that positivity has remained which is good. That’s the way we want it.”

Kick-off for the game on Saturday is at 3pm at Ardencaple.

Meanwhile, the Helensburgh Ladies side face a trip to Cupar to face Howe of Fife Women in National League Two this Sunday.

The Howe are currently top after two bonus-point wins against Royal Dick Vet College Women and Grangemouth Women.

Kick-off time for that fixture is on Sunday at 2pm.

Burgh jumior player Adam Scott has also been selected for West under-16s against East under-16s at Netherdale on Sunday.
