THE gregarious Fraser Hall returned to Helensburgh Golf Club as the club"s professional having served his apprenticeship there some years previously.
He brought with him as his assistant Jim Covell, a young man who had worked under Fraser in his previous appointment.
Jim quickly won over the hearts and minds of the members with his friendliness and consuming desire to please with nothing being too much trouble to him to ensure that the customer was always satisfied.
The 30-year-old is now leaving these shores to continue his career at Carlisle Golf Club in Canada.
His popularity was reflected in a turnout of 103 golf club members in somewhat variable conditions last Saturday in a tournament organised by Fraser for Jim"s benefit.
The 11-hole Stableford was won by Mike Massey with 27 points, two ahead of Greens Convenor Kenny Hale on 25 points.
John Waddell was third also on 25 points.
Stepping into Jim"s shoes in Fraser"s shop as trainee assistant is local member, 22-year-old Matthew Burt, a 1-handicap left-hander.
