EIGHTY Helensburgh Golf Club members faced testing conditions on Saturday in the first medal competition of the new season.
The field contained two entirely different sections each with different aims and aspirations. For some it was a normal medal giving them the opportunity to demonstrate that the excesses of the winter months had not adversely affected their skill or revised their ambitions.
For others who had not been able for one reason or another to return the required number of cards last season to retain their handicap it presented one final chance to gain the required credentials to take part in this season"s campaign.
The best score returned was that of 17-handicapper Peter Hillis, whose net 67 was the product of two consistent equal halves and secured his handicap of 16.
