THE curtain is set to come down on Helensburgh"s season this Saturday with the visit of National Division Three champions Lasswade to Ardencaple.

Three wins in the last three games have guaranteed the Greens league status for another year - but coach Liam McIntyre has called on his players to go out with a bang.

Victory could see Helensburgh finish as high as fifth, the target set by McIntyre for his young squad.

He said: 'We want to win it one hundred per cent.

' It"s a shame Lasswade have been beaten twice in the last two weeks as I wanted them to come to us unbeaten. I was confident we could turn them over and I still am.

'They are maybe fielding some of their seconds now, but I will have my full team out so I am looking forward to it.

'If we win on Saturday then we can retain fifth spot and that is the goal I set out this season, to make the top five.'

Lasswade have won the league at a canter, racking up 718 points in their 21 games so far, but when the two sides met in March, the Greens narrowly lost out 22-14.

He added: 'When we played them a couple of months back, they said we had been the hardest team they had played all season.

'Our team maybe young, but they have worked well and shown plenty of maturity.

'If we can get them to relax and take their time over decisions then I am sure it will be an amazing game of rugby to watch and I am 90 per cent sure we can win it.'

McIntyre will hand the captain"s armband to his second row David Calderwood, who will be taking his final bow as a Burgh player.

Calderwood has represented the club for more than 20 years and the Rosneath man, now in his 40s, has decided to hang up his boots once and for all.

'He has given everything to the club,' added McIntyre, 'so we felt it was right he should receive the honorary captaincy.'
