GHK................................ 14
HELENSBURGH narrowly missed out on the points after they were defeated by GHK in a nail-biting clash on Saturday.
On a cold, dank but dry December day Helensburgh were led out at Ardencaple by Joel Hammond in his last game for the Burgh before returning to his native New Zealand.
The home side, resplendent in their new kit, generously sponsored by Castle Timber of Dumbarton, were expecting a tough game with GHK, who are above them in the league and still maintaining a realistic promotion challenge.
Helensburgh started strongly, however, with Black and Linzee Gordon prominent and on the seven-minute mark they were awarded a penalty for the GHK second row coming off his feet at a ruck and Black confidently slotted the conversion from the 10-metre line.
As often happens, the opposition were galvanised into action and Burgh had to withstand some strong pressure on their line before both Holmes and Black made incisive brakes to take play into the GHK 22.
