HELENSBURGH face a tricky home tie to Irvine this Saturday as the league leaders take to the field at Ardencaple.

The Greens have faced postponment upon postponment in recent months and have only managed to have one run out this year which resulted in a 24-13 loss away to Glasgow Accies.

However, Helensburgh have enjoyed a fantastic home record this season and will be aiming to build upon that if Saturday’s game goes ahead.

Victories over the likes of Allan Glens and Annan have preserved the Ardencaple’s side unbeaten home record and they will be looking to extend that to six games on the bounce with a win over Irvine.

On the other hand Irvine have enjoyed a successful season, only falling to three defeats all year.

The visitors managed to complete a full round of fixtures in January allowing them to carry their 2013 form into the New Year.

They cobbled together six consecutive wins, stretching from October to the end of January, including victories over promotion rivals East Kilbride and GHK.

Their impresseive run eventually came to an end in their last tie as they fell to a narrow 3-7 defeat at the hands of a plucky Kilmarnock side who sit just above Helensburgh in fifth.

Bill McDonald, head coach of the Greens, said: “Irvine at home is always going to be a big test but not one we will shirk away from.

“Our home form gives us a lift and we are looking forward to getting a game after the recent call offs. The season is all over the place with a number of teams playing a whole different number of matches.

“Our home record would suggest we could win, we are very good at home but we just seem to have a mental block on the road.

“The game will be very interesting as Irvine are among the top teams in the league and will be wanting to get back to winning following defeat to Kilmarnock.”
