The Greens have only managed to get one game on since the turn of the year and McDonald admitted he hasn’t seen a situation where so many ties have been postponed as a result of waterlogged pitches.

He said: “The amount of call offs we have had this season is very frustrating.

“It’s a funny situation and one I’ve never experienced.

”The weather has of course always been a problem at this time of year but it never tends to be because of the rain.

“Most of the time you lose games to frost as it makes the pitches too hard and dangerous to play on but this year we haven’t had one postponement as a result of frost.

“The problem now is that the season is going to have to be extended into the second week in April at the very least.

“This provides us with the issue of whether or not players are going to be able to commit themselves to these dates. We expected to have the season finished by March so some players may not be available come the end of the season.” Looking ahead to Saturday, McDonald feels that if the game goes ahead then Helensburgh have a great chance to end their barren spell on the road.

He added: “It is a very winnable tie. Every game at this stage of the season is a winnable tie.

“We beat Lenzie earlier on in the season but we know that, if the game does indeed go ahead, that the pitch is most likely going to be very heavy.

“Lenzie are a very forward orientated team but we could cause them problems if we allow our backs space to run.

“Hopefully we will have Dan Bowles back for the Lenzie game as well as the usual guys. We will also welcome a few boys back who haven’t been able to play due to other commitments.”
