Former rugby league internationalist Sean Long is the latest star to commit to May’s Helensburgh International Veterans Tournament.

Long starred for St Helens and Hull at club level, as well as both England and Great Britain at international level, making over 300 professional appearances and he is set to join a host of other top names at Ardencaple on May 31.

Although Long has confirmed his attendance, he is yet to decide what team he will be turning out for. David Higgins, event organiser explained: “After discussions over the weekend I offered him the choice either to play for the Rugby For Heroes England team or the newly formed, Rugby League Legends, which will be the fifth big team in the tournament, and he is still thinking about which team to join but he definitely will be there.” With dozens of former professional players signing up to play and a number of former Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and overseas internationalists confirming their attendance, the tournament is shaping up to be one of the biggest sporting events ever hosted in the town.

While the tournament promises to be a thrilling sporting event, the main reason behind the event is to raise funds for a number of charities.

The Commodore Hotel and Lodge on Loch Lomond have already committed to sponsoring the event but there a wide range of sponsorship opportunities still available including main strip sponsors and smaller patch sponsors on the strips.

Any companies or individuals intered in sponsoring can contact David Higgins via email at rugbyvets@hotmail.com.
