While Helensburgh are unbeaten at Ardencaple this season they had not won away from home since October 2013 but that record was put straight with a comfortable 26-9 victory in Lenzie at the weekend.

Looking back on the match, Greggain was pleased to get the away day monkey off of the team’s back and hopes the win can help them push on for the remainder of the season.

He said: “We always fancy our chances at home or away but it is just one of those things that for some reason we hadn’t been able to win away this season.

“Although we hadn’t won we knew we had the ability in the squad and now that we have won this first away game we are hoping to get back to our old selves, winning both home and away.

“It was great to get the win under our belts but the most important thing is that we now progress from here and make sure to take that win into the remainder of the season.” Greggain was also pleased with his own showing against Lenzie although he admits his team mates were more impressed with his performance than he was: “We had a few games off over the last few weeks so we could have been rusty on Saturday but it was a great team performance. “It was our first game back for a while and I was just desperate to do anything to play rugby.

“I got a few compliments from the boys but I didn’t realise during the game that I was having a good game — I just kept running and trying to do my bit for the team.” Helensburgh have no game this weekend but return to action on March 15 with an away tie at Newton Stewart followed by a trip to high flying Irvine, and Greggain hopes Saturday’s win can help them in the double header: “We are looking to win more away games but we also have a number of massive games at home against teams up at the top of the league and Saturday’s win gives us the confidence that we can challenge up there.

“We still have two games to go against Irvine — we are unbeaten at home so we are confident we can beat them at Ardencaple and the win at Lenzie gives us the belief that we can beat them away too.”
