Former Wales internationalists Leigh Davis, Colin Charvis, Ian Gough, Ben Evans and Rob Appleyard have confirmed they will star in the tournament on May 31 for the Wales and Ireland team alongside former Irish internationalists Rob Henderson and David Corkery, with a number of other players yet to be confirmed.

As well as the Welsh and Irish stars signing up for the tournament at Helensburgh Rugby Club, Junior Paramore’s Southern Hemisphere side have been boosted by the additions of Samoan back row Opeta Palepoi, who has 48 caps for his country and number eight Maama Molitika, who has 18 caps for Tonga and three for the Pacific islands.

With a team full of former Scotland stars, a squad of England legends and a team representing rugby league, as well as the Southern Hemisphere legends team and the Wales and Ireland team, over 50 former professional players will be taking to the Ardencaple pitch. Member of the tournament’s organising committee, David Higgins, said: “The tournament will be the biggest sporting event ever in Helensburgh and it will put Helensburgh on the world sporting stage.

“We are hoping this will be a regular event and become one of the big six international veteran tens events happening around the world.” As well as showcasing some of the biggest names in rugby the tournament is also raising money for a number of charities through a variety of different sponsorship opportunities.

Each team of former professional players is raising money for a charity selected by the team captains.

Jason White’s Scottish legends are raising money for Maggies Cancer Centres, Rob Henderson and Ian Gough’s Welsh and Irish legends team are supporting Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff.

Junior Paramore’s Southern Hemisphere team are supporting The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, while the English select are supporting Rugby For Heroes and the Rugby League Legends team are backing Wooden Spoon, the rugby charity helping disadvantaged children.

The Commodore Hotel, Lodge on Loch Lomond and Xodus have already committed to sponsoring the event but there a wide range of sponsorship opportunities still available, including main strip sponsors and smaller patch sponsors on the strips.
