The 27-year-old Canada international, who was born in South Africa, congratulated the boys on an impressive season and spoke to the team on the importance of training.

Van Der Merwe told the youngsters: “When I was younger playing in South Africa one of the best ways to stay fit and learn was to play touch with the older boys.

“It’s great to see your coaches are keen to keep you training going even though your season has finished, it will give you a head start on next season.” The Warriors back, who has scored 32 tries in 74 appearances for the Glasgow side then handed out the awards to the thrilled youngsters.
