A HELENSBURGH based project has banded together once again to raise money through the means of rugby, Charity Sporting Prints Rugby Legends is a group established of former rugby league and union players who come together in order to help raise money for various charities, and recently made the trip to Wigan’s DW Stadium to raise money for the charity Joining Jack.

The charity was established by former rugby star Andy Johnson and his wife Alex, having received the news that their son Jack has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2011.

The pair work tirelessly to raise support and awareness for the cause in order to find a cure.

The Helensburgh side, Charity Sporting Prints, took a team down to play in front of the 18,000 strong crowd.

And manager and founder of Charity Sporting Prints, David Higgins, told Advertiser Sport: “We were ecstatic when we were asked to play against the Joining Jack legends.

“As soon as Kris Radlinski and Andy Johnson approached us we were desperate to make it happen.” The Helensburgh based side eventually succumbed to a star studded side featuring the likes of Sean Long, Andy Farrell and Jason Robinson in a 16-4 defeat — all in the name of charity.

Sporting Prints Rugby hope to play another Vet Tens match in Helensburgh and are on the lookout for sponsors to make it happen.

Following on from the success of this summer’s Helensburgh Rugby Vets 10s tournament at Ardencaple, Charity Sporting Prints are hoping to get another tournament set up for next season.

All proceeds of the rugby prints goes to the players favoured charity or other charities supported by the players in the project.

For this to become a success they require sponsorship to get the project to get off the ground and urge anyone interested to contact them via the website: www.charitysportingprints.com
