HELENSBURGH’S Charlotte Dobson and Rhu’s Luke Patience are this week competing in the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma.

Forty-seven British sailors are hitting the water at the regatta in Majorca, which is running from Monday to this Saturday, April 2 and is the first stage of four in the 2016 Eurosaf Champions Sailing Cup series.

With Great Britain qualifying in all 10 Olympic sailing events at the first opportunity in 2014 and having named its Games representatives in most cases, the Palma regatta is a chance for those Rio-bound sailors to fine-tune themselves and their equipment four months out from the start of the Games.

Charlotte Dobson and Sophie Ainsworth, who earned their first Olympic Games call-ups earlier this month, are the sole British representatives in the 49erFX event. As the Advertiser goes to press they are placed fourth in the 34-strong field.

Luke Patience and Chris Grube will be looking to further their new partnership in the men’s 470 event. As the Advertiser goes to press they are eighth in the field of 79.

The final medal races are scheduled for Saturday, April 2.
