HELENSBURGH sailor Charlotte Dobson and Rhu sailor Luke Patience had impressive final races at the Princess Sofia Trophy in Palma on Saturday to finish just outside the medals.

Forty-seven British sailors set sail in Majorca as preparation for Rio 2016 stepped up.

The 470 men’s duo of Luke Patience and Chris Grube concluded their events in fourth place, moving up from fifth overnight with strong medal race performance.

Patience was ranked number two in the world and had booked his place in Rio before previous partner Elliot Willis was diagnosed with cancer in December.

With their sailing partnership still in its infancy Patience and Grube will be pleased with the progress they are making as Patience looks to re-qualify for Rio.

Meanwhile Charlotte Dobson and Sophie Ainsworth improved to sixth overall with an impressive second placed finish in their 49erFX medal race.

Dobson and Ainsworth earned their first Olympic Games call-up last month and will continue their preparations right up until the showpiece event in September.
