HELENSBURGH Sailing Club started the "Open Autumn Series" on a wet but windy day.
The fruity north easterly provided great winds for good racing but the torrential rain dampened spirits.
Excellent courses were set covering the whole bay off the club.
In the novice class Alan Mcintosh and Iona Stewart enjoyed match racing in their Toppers, with Iona coming out just ahead in both races.
Similarily, the two Blazes in the handicap class enjoyed close racing, with visitor Bill Souden getting the better of Merv on the long runs to win twice.
The Assymetric class saw some high speed crashes from the 49er of Darren Booth and Chris Laverty, whilst determined Robin Flannigan and Shona Wallace hung in for a handicap win in the first race, ahead of Homer brothers Andrew and Alistair, sailing "Raoul", their Laser 4000.
The brothers, once they figured out the course, won the second, with Robin and Shona third.
In the Carts it was a day for overweights with "Homer"s "Stealth SXL" enjoying the breeze for two wins.
The following Darts, sailed by Bobby Lennox and Neil McIntosh, had close racing and shared a second and third each in the two races.
Next weekend should hopefully see a larger turnout as the series gathers momentum, although the Skiff element have their Scottish Championships at Largs.
