HELENSBURGH Sailing Club"s Winter Series finished on the coldest weekend of the lot.
But this did little to deter folk as once again there were more than 30 boats on the water.
Boosted by the Toppers, who rounded off their weekend training event by joining in on Sunday, Team Milton, Charles, Alistair and Lawrence, ran two races extremely smoothly.
The longer course and steady moderate winds suited the Musto Skiff of John Reekie and Andy Hooten who won both races respectively. However, it was the ever consistent Roy McCubbin who consolidated his lead in the series to lift the series overall.
Despite being on Rescue, the Miltons were runners up in their 505 having already accumulated some good results ealier in the series. Graham McCubbin was third in his laser radial and Bill Souden fourth sailing a Blaze.
The topper fleet has some impressive turnouts, with more than 25 boats taking part at some time - the formula of combining the training weekend and some racing worked very well.
Roy McCubbin, RYA Scotland"s High performance coach, was very complimentary in the way both the remaining and the winter series ran. Hopefully this will set a precedent for future seasons. The racing was very keen and tight over short courses and in the end, Alex Still took overall first place with Jen Abraham second and Rory Kilgore third.
Handicap: 1st - RS200 R.McCubbin/K.McSeveney, 2nd - 505 C and A Milton, 3rd - Laser Radial G McCubbin.
Topper: 1st - A Still, 2nd - J Abraham, 3rd - R Kilgore.
