HELENSBURGH Sailing Club recently held its annual spring regatta and hosted the first of SNECCA"s traveller series for catamarans.

Despite being called a spring regatta, the weather was more akin to winter with wind chill hitting minus and spells of hail.

Winds throughout the weekend were challenging for all in the respect of their lightness and shifty nature but this did little to stop expert R.O David Wilson who calmly fitted in five good races.

The slow handicap fleet fleet saw an excellent turnout of juniors sailing Toppers, Oppie and 4.7. Ross Stanley White sailed a near flawless series in his Oppie for first overall while Alan McIntosh"s persistance and consistency awarded him second overall and first of the large Topper contingent.

Andrew Mitchell, trying out a Topper, took to the task and by the second day had got the hang of it with first and seconds to add to Saturdays scoreline to give him third overall while Calum Wilson was third Topper and fourth overall.

Team Milton - Alistair and father Charlie, won the Handicap fleet sailing a 505 with Moray Clark second in his radial.

The asymetric class was a miss match racing affair with the Mandersons Kenny and son Alistair sailing a Laser 4000 against the Flannigans - Robin and Shona sailing a Laser 2000. The Flans took the first two races whilst the Mans took the subsequent three on Sunday for victory.

In the SNECCA cat fleet, past supremo Hamish Ramsay and Stuart Buchanan showed excellent form and consistancy to win with four wins out of five, their Hurricane 5.9 rarely stopping.

Second and third were seperated by one point with the Tornado of Dave Parker and Carl Jones getting the better of Mark Homers Stealth SXL. Tony Abraham, sailing a Dart 18 solo, was first of the persuing large Dart 18 pack.
