CLYDE CRUSING CLUB launched the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Series on Friday at the London Boat Show, with Shirley Robertson OBE at the helm.

The club, the organisers of Scotland"s largest yachting regatta, revealed that double Olympic gold medallist Shirley will actively promote the series in a bid to increase the profile of the event in the UK and beyond, thanks to support from EventScotland.

Howard Morrison, commodore of the Clyde Cruising Club, said: 'We are delighted to be working with Shirley for the 2009 event.

'She is a great ambassador for British sailing and we hope by working with her we will encourage more people to take part in the event as well as encouraging more people to take up sailing.'
