THE inaugural two-boat team racing cup was hosted by the Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club (RNCYC) at the weekend.

Sailing in the club's fleet of Sonars, there was an excellent turn out with six teams attending the event.

The standard of the teams entered was extremely high, with the current British University champions Edinburgh University and a couple of world championship winners present in the teams, as well as some of the usual suspects from around Scotland.

The format of the event consisted of two round robins to be held over the two days, with each team having 10 races to get their shot at glory.

Saturday morning saw the fleet head out to the east patch to do battle with light winds forecasted.

Edinburgh University started strongly, posting two wins from their first two races against SUSA X and Dambusters, but they were unable to add any more wins to their tally by losing to the two RNCYC teams and the Royal St George.

RNCYC A were chasing having lost to RNCYC 1, and the Royal St George, who only lost one race.

This meant that the overnight leaders were RNCYC 1 and the Royal St George with four out of five wins each.

After a fantastic social on the Saturday night it seemed that some of the teams struggled with the early start, as quite a few teams were rushing to get out to the start line on time.

However, with the race officer feeling benevolent nobody missed a start.

Edinburgh University again started proceedings by posting two wins and RNCYC A beating RNCYC 1 to close the gap on the top two teams.

However, RNCYC 1 did not drop a race all day and Edinburgh University beat the Royal St George.

This meant that the eventual winners were RNCYC 1, who only lost two races out of 10.

The Royal St George finished second and RNCYC A was joint third with Edinburgh University.
