HELENSBURGH sailor Luke Patience has teamed up with a new partner in a bid to become Britain’s first 470 Olympic gold medalists.

Patience has joined up with 30-year-old Englishman, Elliot Willis as they prepare for the forthcoming Olympic Games in Rio following the retirement of partner Joe Glanfield earlier this month.

Glanfield decided to call time on his career to spend more time with his family as he felt he was unable to give both the required attention.

Willis has a history of working with medal winners having partnered two time silver medallist Nick Rogers up until August 2013 and previously has also won the 470 World Championships in 2006 and 2008 with former helm Nic Asher.

Having missed out on sole 470 selection berth at the 2008 and 2012 Games with Asher, Willis admits there is unfinished business in terms of his own sailing ambitions.

The pair will now head to Majorca next week for training ahead of their first scheduled event on March 31.
