Charlotte and her partner Sophie Ainsworth headed to Palma, Majorca as they battled against the best of the 49er class at the 49erFX event, competing in the week long tournament between March 29 and April 5.

Dobson said: “It was a week of everything — we had 20 knots, we had two knots — we are just really happy to get through the week without any really big scores and we had quite a good consistent week so we are really happy.

“We were really happy to keep the consistency and that really was the goal — to not have any real bloopers.” Dobson and Ainsworth eventually fell to winners Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze of Brazil.

Grael and Kunze have led the 49erFX class throughout the season and continued their dominance with a steady performance in the heat of Palma.

With three single point quick fire races on the course the Brazilians raced steadily and recorded a 5-3-7 to finish seven points clear of Ida Marie Baad Neilsen and Marie Thusgaard Olsen of Denmark whilst Dobson and Ainsworth finished 31 points adrift in third place.

Dobson continued: “We came out the back of our winter training and it was really good to see the progress we have made on some of the areas that we really wanted to.

“One of the areas was being able to sail through the fleet when we had bad starts and I think that is something that has been really good for us here.

“So we are really happy with that but our to do list ever gets longer with stuff to work on but this medal is a really good platform to move into the summer season.” Rhu sailor Luke Patience also competed in the event as he prepares his bid to qualify for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Alongside new partner Elliot Willis, the pair picked up a credible top 10 finish, ending the tournament in seventh in a very tight field and only 20 points off of a podium position.
