The club won the trophy in 2012 and 2013 and headed south in the hope of completing the hat trick of victories.

The ace keelboat team aboard ‘Sigmatic’ (skipper Donald McLaren, Ian MacArthur, Ian Chatten, Katie and Richard Littlefield, and Stu Christie) sailed the boat to Abersoch in Wales where the faced a large field with entries from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland and the Isle of Man, as well as from across England and Wales.

Ten races were held in perfect 12-20 knot winds and the team accomplished their goal of lifting the trophy for a third successive time in grand style with four first place finishes, two seconds, and four thirds — discarding a third to count 17 points.

However, it was a closely fought battle which saw Alan Harper from Cove come second overall, just beating four times champion Tim Goodbody into third.
