AN ADVENTURER who completed an eight month, 9,000km triathlon along the border between Europe and Asia is set to share his story with audiences in Helensburgh.

Charlie Walker will share his talk ‘Following the Line’ with audiences at the Victoria Halls on Thursday, February 1 as part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s Inspiring People series

His trip was more than a long distance endurance feat as he aimed to explore what it meant to be Asian or European, what divides and unites people on either side of the line and the differences in landscapes, environments, regions and cultures.

Charlie completed his feat in November 2017 after setting off from the Arctic coast of northern Russia on cross-country skis.

He followed the spine of the Ural Mountains, dodging bears and surviving nerve-wracking whiteouts.

The second leg saw him paddle for more than 2,000km tackling soaring temperatures. Then he took to the bike for 2,500 miles of cycling through the Caucasus Mountains, skirting the Black Sea coast and ending up in Istanbul, ‘The Gateway to Asia’ and the end of his mammoth journey.

Charlie will share with audiences the challenges he faced, the changes he noted , the people he came across and his stand out memories.

Charlie said: “I’m very excited to come to Scotland and speak among the RSGS line up of Inspiring People.

“It’s an honour to be invited by such an historical and well-respected organisation. In telling this story, I aim to encourage audiences to dream big and tackle their goals, however mad or impossible they might seem.”

The talk is open to all and tickets are free for students, RSGS members and under 18s. Tiso Outdoor Experience cardholders can obtain tickets for £8 and visitors for £10.
