On Tuesday, April 8, members of the Helensburgh and Lomond Area Committee agreed to appoint Councillor Maurice Corry to the role.
When councillor Maurice Corry, Armed Forces Veterens Champion, provided members with an update at a meeting on August 29 last year, it was agreed that the area committee would nominate a representative to serve on the World War 1 Commemoration Steering Group — it was later agreed Cllr Freeman would perform this role.
However due to conflicting diary demands — particularly in respect of his commitment as a Board Member of the National Park authority — Cllr Freeman has missed a number of meetings of the WW1 steering group.
In addition, given that he has not been able to participate fully in the work of the group because of other commitments, he indicated his resignation from the group forthwith.
The area committee unanimously appointed Councillor Corry, who is already a member in his role as Armed Forces Champion, to also represent Helensburgh and Lomond on the group.
