Founded by Susie Will the cafe, which is situated at the former tennis club in Craigrownie Park, aims to attract youngsters from all over the Rosneath Peninsula.

The barbecue was to celebrate the re-opening of the cafe which closed in July 2013 due to lack of funding.

Susie was pleased with the turn out on the day, and told the Advertiser: “Well it poured and there was a cup final on television, but we had a healthy mix of interested parents and a few youths drop by.” The mum-of-three also said now they have secured funding, one of the tennis courts will be turned into a skate park, with the ramps paid for by Peoples’ Postcode Lottery, due to popular demand from youngsters in the village.

The second court will be used for tennis, basketball, and mini football. The cafe, which caters for those aged 12-18, has also secured the return of a youth worker and boasts a snack bar, pool table, football table, TV, DVD player, iPod, and dock.

They have plans for a streetdance workshop, forming a band practice, and weekly theatre workshop sessions, and have also applied for funding to start a local football team.

Susie started the cafe after returning to the Peninsula following three years living in France.

She added: “Supporting us need not be a long-term commitment, £1-a-week for as long as you feel comfortable, those who do, automatically become Friends of Cove and Kilcreggan Youth Café.” A note of thanks was also given to those who have donated and helped out so far, including Awards for All, Peoples Postcode Lottery, Acha, Argyll and Bute Council, Community Council, Lighthouse Bar, Terrace Garage, Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, and many other generous locals.
