Independence House was officially opened by Blair Jenkins, Yes Scotland chief executive, on Sunday, July 27 at 7.30pm.

Mr Jenkins said: “The opening of the Helensburgh office with less than two months to go highlights the growth and the strength of the local Yes group here.

“Their determination is being mirrored all over Scotland and for that reason alone, we know that our positive message – that Scotland’s future should be in Scotland’s hands – will reach every doorstep and community in the country.” Before the ribbon cutting, Mr Jenkins joined a team of local campaigners in the afternoon to canvass the area in a bid to gain support for Scottish independence.

Dr Margaret Pollock, organiser of Yes Helensburgh and Lomond, said: “The shop has been operational for a while as we prepared it for this weekend’s official launch. In that time we have been overwhelmed by the number of people who have come in with questions about the referendum. The people of Helensburgh and the surrounding areas are very engaged and want to talk about Scotland’s future; that’s why it’s so important for us to be here every day. We are delighted that just in the last couple of weeks, dozens of local people have come to us and volunteered as new activists for YES Helensburgh and Lomond.” The shop will be opened for business seven days a week until September 18 and people are invited to call in and have their referendum questions answered by our team of volunteers.
