Eian Barrie, a volunteer with the Lomond and Trossachs Countryside Trust’s 'Walk in the Park’ initiative received the Charity Champion Award, thanks to his exceptional work with local people in the community.
'Walk in the Park’ encourages those suffering from long-term ill heath to get active again and to make walking accessible for all. Using the vast space across the surroundings of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, the project is now one of the best examples of health walks in Scotland, with another three groups run by the programme.
Eian was pivotal in setting up a new walking group in Balloch following the funding from the ScottishPower Foundation. Eian lead the walks and, along with other volunteers, visited libraries, doctors surgeries and local shops to promote the project. The awards recognised and celebrated the amazing achievements of the 19 outstanding charities and non-profit organisations that have received funding from the ScottishPower Foundation over the past year.
