Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on Sunday, March 1, when a resident of Pier Road in Rhu made the unusual discovery in his back garden.
The chickens are now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Dumbarton, where staff have named them Cora, Claire, Carrie and Cilla.
Inspector Gillian Dick said, “At this stage we don’t know how the chickens came to be there.
“It’s possible they have strayed from somewhere nearby but we also can’t rule out the possibility they were dumped. We’re keen to hear from anyone who recognises the chickens. If we aren’t able to reunite them with their owner we’ll find them a loving new home.” Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
