The store opened in October 2013 and was the 300th Waitrose branch in the UK.

Since its opening, the branch has donated £24,000 through its Community Matters scheme to local causes such as Helensburgh and Lomond Carers, Helensburgh Rugby Club and the Helensburgh Christmas Festival.

In the past year, Waitrose has become the main supporter of the Helensburgh and Lomond Food Bank with a permanent in-store collection point and regular collections throughout the year, raising thousands in donations.

It has also raised awareness and funds for their charity of the year – Dementia Helensburgh with 75 per cent of partners at the branch being trained in dementia awareness.

Other highlights include work with local school – which includes Luss primary selling produce grown by pupils in the store, and supporting pupils on work experience from Hermitage Academy.

Next month Waitrose Helensburgh will launch its annual Christmas Isolation campaign – to provide Christmas dinner to members of the local community who might otherwise have had Christmas dinner alone. Last year it worked with the Helensburgh Addiction Rehab Team to provide a memorable Christmas dinner for their clients.

Manager Andy Loveday said: “Since our opening two years ago, we’ve been warmly welcomed by the community of Helensburgh. Our Community work is a work in progress which our customers regularly tell us is making a huge difference to the area. We hope to welcome even more local people into our branch over the next 12 months to shop with us; we price match against Tesco each week, so shoppers can expect great quality, first rate customer service and excellent value for money.” Councillor Maurice Corry, armed forces and veterans champion for the area, said: “I’m delighted to see that Waitrose continues to progress well. The many people I speak to seem to be happy with it.

“They have been extremely good at supporting the charities and the area, and have been very generous with their donations.

“It has also been a good source of jobs, and has really brought a nice range of products.

“The military personnel recognise the brand and are very glad to see Waitrose here. I think this is one of the deciding factors for them when they consider moving to the area.”
