Stephen Park
A FORMER pupil of Hermitage Academy has been appointed as British Cycling’s new performance director.
Stephen Park, who received an OBE for his services to sport in 2008, has spent the last 15 years managing Team GB’s elite sailors, when they amassed 23 Olympic and Paralympic medals in Athens, Beijing, London and Rio.
Mr Park studied sport at the Scottish School of Physical Education after leaving school, and worked for the Royal Yachting Association Scotland and the Welsh Yachting Association before being appointed as the RYA’s Olympic manager in 2001.
Having learned to sail at Helensburgh Sailing Club, he competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics in Barcelona and Atlanta.
