AN EDINBURGH-BASED saxophone and piano jazz duo are set to arrive in Arrochar next weekend to help raise funds for the village’s community hall.

The Three Villages Community Hall will play host to Jazz in the Village, featuring Ian Miller on saxophone and Dominic Spencer on piano, on Saturday, February 17 from 8pm.

Ian and Dominic have been performing together for a number of years and have embarked on many rural tours under their Jazz in the Village series.

The series sees Ian and Dominic contact local village halls to see if they would be interested in hosting a performance by them.

The village halls benefit from a cut of the ticket sales and Ian and Dominic get to share their original tunes and jazz standards with a wider audience.

Thousands have now seen the pair perform with many sell out shows and they have found themselves returning to remote communities after the success of their first appearances.

Their performances often bring jazz to the communities for the first time and the village halls allow them to play in an intimate setting to an appreciative audience.

Dominic and Ian, who have performed at the Glasgow and Edinburgh Jazz Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, are looking forward to taking to the stage in Arrochar and are hoping the community will turn out.

Dominic told the Advertiser: “We are really looking forward to it. We always get a good response when we play in village halls and often encores are requested.

“Village halls provide a special atmosphere because everyone knows each other. We try to recreate the experience of a jazz club.

“We split the door charge with the hall and bring some of our original music and jazz standards to a local audience.”

Tickets for the event are priced at £10 and are available from the Three Villages Hall or by calling (01301) 702669.
