HELENSBURGH’S Scout and Guide base is the latest location in the town to receive a life-saving defibrillator

A LIFE-SAVING piece of equipment has now been placed on the Cottage Wall of the Scout and Guide Headquarters in John Street.

As previously reported in the Advertiser, Helensburgh Toyota donated £1,500 towards obtaining the defibrillator and the Guides, Brownies, Rainbows and Leaders and Trefoil held a sponsored walk raising £595.

The Friends of Guiding and the Scouts donated £200 each meaning not only could the John Street hall get a defibrillator, but that Scouts and Guides are able to support the maintenance of others in the area too.

Margaret Morrison, chair of Friends of Guiding, said: “We thought that as there are several groups who use the Guide and Scout Halls, the proximity of Clyde Street which can be busy, especially in the summer, we are half way between the AED at Helensburgh Tennis Club and the one in Colquhoun Square that it might be a good idea.”

“The Scouts were of a similar mind and we decided to fund raise and now it has been put in place.”

The defibrillator will be available to use 24 hours a day in the event of a cardiac arrest.
