A Helensburgh gym has been shortlisted in the Luxury Travel Guide Awards.

Fitforlife on West King Street has been nominated in the lifestyle category of the prestigious competition.

Angie MacFarlane, has owned the business for five years, she told the Advertiser: “It’s quite remarkable when you look at what we are up against.

“I’m absolutely stunned.”

The personal trainer received an email explaining that the small business had been shortlisted and admitted she phoned them to see if there had been a mistake.

“They emailed us to congratulate us and said that we were shortlisted”, she added.

“When the email came through we weren’t sure what to make of it but we called them, but they were quite sure there was no mistake.”

Fitforlife specialises in being a small gym with about 60 members and aims to provide a unique service to each of its members.

The gym is run by a small team of five personal trainers who run group fitness sessions, with a maximum of eight members, to allow them to provide routine tailored to member’s needs.

She added: “We do a range of sessions and a wide variety.

“Our oldest member is in her 60s and our youngest is about 20, so there’s quite a range. We get couples coming along too.”

“It’s like a family environment. It’s always friendly and welcoming.”

Angie is expecting to find out if Fitforlife has won at the end of June.
