AN ELDERLY motorcyclist has died following a crash on the A82 trunk road near Tarbet.

The man's orange Honda motorbike struck a VW van as both vehicles travelled north on the road near Stuckgowan at around 11.45am on Thursday.

The male driver of the van was not injured.

Police are now appealing for information from members of the public who were in the area at the time.

Sergeant Kevin Craig, from Police Scotland's road policing unit in Dumbarton, said: “Whilst we have spoken to a number of people stopped to assist at the scene, we would still like to hear from anyone driving on the A82 near to Tarbet just prior to the crash.

"They may have information that will assist officers with their enquiries. Also, if anyone has dashcam footage they think might help, then please get in touch.

“Any information can be passed to Dumbarton Road Policing Unit via 101. Please quote reference number 1542/05/07 when calling.”

The road was closed for several hours between Tarbet and Arden to allow police to carry out investigations into the crash.

Major delays were reported both on the A82 itself and on other routes in the area, including the A814 between Arrochar and Garelochhead.

The A82 reopened to traffic at around 5pm on Thursday.
