A GRAND old lady reached her 100th birthday on Saturday and celebrated with a family party - as well as the customary telegram from the Queen.

Molly Cowap, who has lived in the Helensburgh area for over 75 years, celebrated her milestone day at the Rosslea Hall Hotel.

When she was born, in Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, David Lloyd George was Prime Minister, George V was on the throne and Woodrow Wilson was US President.

Molly was called up for National Service during the Second World War, choosing to work in munitions and serving her time in Rugby in Warwickshire.

During the War, in 1942, she married her husband bill and came to live in Helensburgh.

Molly and Bill were active members of the West Kirk congregation and enjoyed country dancing, a particular passion of hers.

Molly has two daughters Sheila and Rhona, two granddaughters Katie and Jenna, and four great grandchildren Rebecca, Leia, Olivia and Cormac.

Bill passed away in 1991 and Molly now lives at Lochside Care Home in Shandon.
