A HELENSBURGH man is training for a half marathon to raise money for the RNLI.

James Haycock, 39, will be running the Great Scottish Half Marathon in aid of the organisation and hopes to raise £500.

He told the Advertiser: “I live near and work on the water and it gives you a bit more of an appreciation of what the RNLI does. It’s the fact that you have a team of people who are willing to stop whatever they are doing to come and help you.

“It was also my stepdad’s favourite charity. He passed away last November and rather than having flowers he asked people to make donations to his local RNLI which is in Cornwall, so that made me think of them.”

To train for the 13.5 mile run, James has been doing between 15 and 20 miles each week and plans to increase the distance as the event approaches.

So far, James has raised £225 through his Just Giving page.
