RATS have been found at a housing estate yards away from a primary school as a result of flooding at a neglected drainage site, a resident has claimed.

Brian Nicholls, of Howie Crescent in Rosneath, says that weeds have been allowed to grow up to seven feet at the rear of the Crescent, which looks on to Rosneath Primary School.

Mr Nicholls claims that the problems have been building up after work was carried out in 2013 and has not been maintained since.

He said: “It’s the perfect rat run for rodents. They have been making their way into people’s houses and poison has been put down.

“There was work done in 2013, and since then they have neglected to put any sort of maintenance work into it.

“From them, it has been slowly blocking up and is now diverting water into people’s gardens. I’ve been told by pest controllers that it is the water that is bringing the rats in.

“The weeds are also about six or seven feet high, all around the school. It is pretty disgusting to look at.

“I’ve been trying to get something done about it by the council.

“They say they will deal with the drainage while the school is on holiday, but I haven’t seen anything done about it.

“The school’s kitchens are only about 60 or 70 yards away. What if the rats were to get in there? The weeds are also dangerous to the kids.”

Mr Nicholls claimed that the affected area is approximately 30 yards long and that while residents’ gardens have been fine after the recent warm weather, it will get worse in the winter.

He added: “It has got to the stage now where it is a long line of dirt, and any water is diverted straight into people’s gardens.”

An Argyll and Bute Council spokesman said: “A drain was installed in 2013 and greatly improved previous flooding issues in the area.

"A contractor attended recently to inspect the drain and a follow-up visit for a further inspection and to carry out any remedial work that may be required will take place in the coming weeks.”
