THE refurbished Moorfoot Primary and newly built Glenpark Children’s Centre are amongst 30 venues in Inverclyde set to open their doors to the public this weekend.

Inverclyde is once again participating in Doors Open Day following the success of last year.

As well as 28 venues opening to the public, five bus tours and two walking tours will also take place.

The historic Custom House on Greenock’s waterfront will be open again for tours, including the Robert Burns Museum, following the building's £4 million redevelopment.

On Saturday children will be able to take on the role of jurors when Greenock Sheriff Court hosts a mock trial.

Volunteer actors will play the parts of court staff and children will be able to see Dorothy put on trial for stealing ruby slippers.

The trials will take place at 10.30am, 11.30am, 2pm and 3pm and tickets are not needed.

There will also be a tour of the court from 12.30-1.30pm which must be booked in advance by either calling 787073 or emailing Greenock@scotcourts.gov.uk

The old Tobacco Warehouse, HMP Greenock, Inverkip and Wemyss Bay Library, Lyle Kirk, Scottish Fire and Rescue Museum, Quarrier's Village, Wemyss Bay Railway Station, The Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock Community Fire and Coastguard Rescue Station and Greenock Art Club are all taking part too.

Provost Martin Brennan said: “It is an opportunity to visit some of Inverclyde’s most interesting buildings and locations which people wouldn’t generally get to see.

“Greenock Sheriff Court is a great example and there will also be a wide selection of churches and historical buildings opening their doors including Wemyss Bay Station.

“There is something for all the family to enjoy and I encourage everyone to get out and about to learn more about Inverclyde’s magnificent heritage.”

Information booklets are available at the reception of the Municipal Buildings in Greenock and local libraries.
