POLICE and supermarket chiefs have denied claims that officers are keeping an eye on school pupils at a Burgh supermarket.

A media report claimed that cops have been basing themselves at Waitrose, directly opposite Hermitage Academy, to deal with rowdy youngsters from the school.

But both the police and the shopping chain say appearances by officers at the Cardross Road supermarket are unconnected to pupils’ visits.

A Waitrose spokesperson said: “We have a good relationship with the local police and occasionally they’ll visit our shop but this is not an everyday occurrence.

“We also have a good relationship with our local school.”

And a police spokesperson added: “The youth engagement officer works with the school and businesses and regularly patrols the area to monitor and help address any issues in the community.”
