A HELENSBURGH woman is bringing the swamp to life on stage as Shrek: The Musical comes to Glasgow.

Jennifer Tierney is playing Mama Bear and first cover Dragon in the hit production of the fairy-tale book and Oscar-winning feature film, which rolled into Glasgow’s King’s Theatre this week and runs until October 6.

The critically-acclaimed UK and Ireland tour is well underway with more Scottish dates pencilled in after the popularity of the opening performances in Edinburgh last December.

And Jennifer, who attended Ian McLeod’s Theatre School in Helensburgh, can’t wait to wow the Glasgow crowds with her Shrek-tacular displays.

She said: “Everyone knows the story of Shrek and it’s a really fun show.

“It’s fantastic and the rest of the cast are all really lovely, so it will be nice to take it to Glasgow and see my family and friends again.

“It’s hard to get home when you’re out on tour most of the time, but I try to get back as much as I can.”

Jennifer has previously played the role of Donna in performances of Mamma Mia on the Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas cruise ship, in what she described as her “dream role”.

And she is enjoying the challenge of adapting to her new part in the ogre-inspired show.

She added: “It was an amazing experience on the cruise ship and I learned a lot.

“Each role is different and all are challenging in their own way, but we use the same skills.

“Singing and dancing can be tricky and it’s hard wearing all of our prosthetics, but it’s good fun.”

The 24-date tour ends in Leeds in January and Jennifer already has plans to return to London for an exciting new production next year, although she couldn’t reveal any more details.
