HELENSBURGH is set to welcome hundreds of heroes and villains to the town this weekend for its first ever comic book convention.

Marvel and DC favourites Spider-Man and Batman will join hordes of superhero enthusiasts for the gathering at the Victoria Halls on Saturday, which will also feature guest writers and artists.

It will be the first time the event has taken place in the town and promoters the Big Glasgow Comic Page were keen to expand the tour after the success of neighbouring Loch Lomond Comic Con last year, which attracted 15,000 visitors.

Organiser Ian Bonar said: “We conducted a survey shortly after Loch Lomond to see where would be suitable and well received and Helensburgh came up first, followed by Dunoon, so we were quick to secure the dates and get it announced.”

The fantasy festival will run from 11am-5pm. Tickets cost £3 online or £4 on the day and under-10s go free.
