A 45-year-old woman died at the scene of a road crash this morning, police have confirmed.
Officers are investigating and appealing for witnesses to the incident on the A818, Daligan, east of Helensburgh.
Two other people were rushed to hospital and are in serious but stable condition.
A Vauxhall Meriva, travelling west, and an eastbound Volkswagen Tiguan, collided around 9.10am and police said the driver of the Meriva died at the scene.
The driver of the Tiguan, a 71-year-old man and his 70-year-old female passenger, were taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Their conditions were described as serious but stable. The road remained closed until 2.40pm today.
Sergeant Paul MacPherson, of Dumbarton road policing unit, appealed for witnesses to the crash.
He said: “Although a number of people stopped to assist at the time, I am still keen to hear from anyone who may have either witnessed the crash or indeed who saw the cars on the road prior to it happening.
“If you have any information that you think may assist our enquiries, then please contact Dumbarton road policing unit via 101. Please quote incident number 0718 Monday, October 8.”
