THE Scottish Submarine Centre will mark the centenary of the First World War with a showing of Home Fires, Broken Sons, next month.

The theatre production, by Oban-based company Three Wee Crows, will be the first to be performed under the 1955 X51 submarine at the centre on West King Street, Helensburgh.

It is set during the First World War and uses theatre, music and poetry to convey life in the towns and villages of the west of Scotland during the Great War, between 1914 and 1918.

Using real-life events from newspaper articles, books and memories, the stories perfectly capture the stark contrast between trying to continue as normal with domestic life back on the Homefront, and the muddy, bloody trenches of the battle front.

This year, of course, marks 100 years since the end of the First World War, with events planned around the Helensburgh area to remember those who sacrificed their lives during the conflict.

Argyll’s Three Wee Crows theatre company was established in 2008 and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with a tour of the Home Fires production – inspired by the famous war song Keep the Home Fires Burning – throughout the Argyll and Bute region.

The show will take place at the submarine centre at 7pm on Saturday, November 3.

Tickets cost £15 for adults, £12 for concessions and £8 for children and are on sale now from HelensburghBoxOffice.com for what will be a memorable evening.
