A CHARITY football match due to be played in Rhu this weekend has been postponed.

A 'Rhu Amateurs Legends' team was due to take to the field at Ardenconnel Park on Sunday, October 28 for a friendly against Dukla Pumpherston in aid of the 'Back Onside' charity, which aims to support people to mental health through sport and other cultural activities.

Dukla Pumpherston – their name inspired partly by the legendary Czech team Dukla Prague, and partly by the West Lothian village of Pumpherston – were once captained by BBC Scotland football pundit Chick Young, and still comprise a number of former Scottish professional players and present-day football pundits, playing games all over Scotland in aid of various good causes.

But the match has been postponed because several members of the Dukla Pumpherston squad are on media duty on Sunday for the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, with Hearts playing Celtic at Murrayfield before Aberdeen take on Rangers at Hampden Park.

Bobby Dunn from Rhu Amateurs told the Advertiser it was hoped to reschedule the match for the new year.
