A YOUNG man from Johnstone who went missing after a night out in Glasgow has been found dead in the River Clyde.

Police confirmed on Wednesday that James Anderson's body had been discovered in the river close to Glasgow Green.

The lad had been in the city on Tuesday for a night out with workmates.

However, when the the 20-year-old hadn't been heard from the next day, his dad Joe raised the alarm.

In a desperate plea for information, Joe posted images online and wrote: “This is my son James Anderson. He went on a work’s night out on Tuesday night to Glasgow and hasn’t been seen since.

“We have had no contact from James which isn’t like him. We are extremely worried. If anyone can help, please contact myself or his mum Sharon. Or the police on 101 as they are aware of the situation. Thanks.”

But the body of a young man was found early that morning and was later confirmed to be the former Johnstone High pupil.

Breaking the devastating news, Joe said: “I can’t believe I am having to write this but, unfortunately, it’s been confirmed James has passed away.

“Enquiries are still ongoing as to exactly what has happened. On behalf of myself, James’ mum and the rest of the family, we all appreciate the kind words and help from everyone.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told our sister paper, The Evening Times that the death is currently being treated as “unexplained.”
