FINAL rehearsals are under way for the Helensburgh Savoy Musical Theatre Group’s latest production - ‘9 to 5 – The Musical’.

Months of hard work behind the scenes are set to bear fruit when the cast and chorus take to the stage at the Victoria Halls from November 7-10 to perform their latest eagerly-awaited show.

The production comes as the original Hollywood film from 1980, starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, is set for a re-release – and amid wide speculation that a remake is on the cards.

Set in an office in 1979, and featuring brilliant music and lyrics by Dolly Parton – including the hit song which bears the name of both the show and the film – it tells a hilarious story of friendship, gossip and revenge, and is set to have more than a few audience members musing about just how much the office environment has, or maybe hasn’t, changed in the nearly 40 years since the smash hit movie was first released.

The Savoy’s cast includes Emily MacGillivray, Kirsty McLaren and Roz Philips as colleagues Doralee, Violet and Judy, plus Kenny McLean as their sexist, lecherous hypocritical and pompous boss Franklin Hart, Rachel Gibbs as Hart’s assistant Roz Keith, and Brian Sayer as Doralee’s supportive husband Dwayne.

Backing them up is a talented supporting cast and chorus, a hard-working crew of stage hands, costume and make-up specialists, plus Pamela Frew on piano.

The Savoy’s production runs from Wednesday, November 7 until Saturday, November 10 at the Victoria Halls, with performances each night at 7.30pm – plus a matinee on the Saturday at 2pm.

Tickets (priced £8, £10 and £12) are on sale from First Class, West Princes Street or through club members in advance, and on the door, subject to availability, before each performance.
