A MAN was allegedly called a “Saudi b*****d” in an unprovoked racist attack outside Helensburgh Central station last week.

Roshdi Mohammed, who lives in Kilcreggan, said he was subjected to the disgusting tirade of abuse as he stood outside the train terminal on Wednesday, October 31.

Roshdi told the Advertiser how he was shocked and saddened by the verbal assault.

He said: “I get the bus to Helensbugh every morning for work, and at around 8.50am I got off the bus and stood outside the car park opposite the stop to have a cigarette.

“A woman who I sometimes see hovering around walked out from the station, looked at me and suddenly said “you’re Saudi”.

“I just replied “I’m not Saudi,” then she said “you are, you Saudi b*****d”.

“She kept repeating it but I just walked away. To be honest I didn’t how to react or what to do.”

Roshdi admitted he was so taken aback by the foul-mouthed rant that it took him a while to comprehend what had happened.

He added: “I was fine when I walked away, but a few moments later it hit me.

“I thought ‘what if I come across her again, what will she call me next?’.

“I have only been living in Scotland for just over a year and never experienced this from anyone. It has left me worried and angry.”

He eventually worked up the courage to report the incident to police, having been supported on social media.

He said: “If I was the one being racist, the world would go against me because of my skin colour.

“I’m a really friendly person, I would never hurt or verbally abuse anyone, no matter what.

“I have reported this to police, but I’m just worried about seeing her again.”

Police said they are aware of the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “The person responsible is described as female, aged in her 50s. We ask that anyone who witnessed this serious incident or who has any information please call the police on 101.

“Any person who suffers any form of racist abuse should contact the police and officers will provide advice and investigate the incident thoroughly.”
